My students had the opportunity to talk about themselves in
a fun and practical way. They created some digital books using STORYJUMPER and their creations are below:
The English Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm past August 24th and 26th. All the elementary students were involved in a Vocabulary Contest and the winners got a great prize. They enjoyed playing different offline games and trying to do their best to get the highest possible score.
The Flag Raising Ceremony was celebrated on the 26th and the best students of the English Classes received a certificate.
The English PIF (Individual Formation Plan) Students were the leaders of the different activities and as usual, they did an excellent job. Congratulations my dear students!
“Valentine’s Day or Saint Valentine’s Day is a holiday
celebrated on February 14 by many people throughout the world. In the
English-speaking countries, it is the traditional day on which lovers express
their love for each other by sending Valentine’s cards, presenting flowers, or
offering confectionery. The holiday is named after two among the numerous Early
Christian martyrs named Valentine. The day became associated with romantic love
in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in the High Middle Ages, when the tradition
of courtly love flourished. The day is most closely associated with the mutual
exchange of love notes in the form of ‘valentines.” – Wikipedia
There are a lot of ways to experience other cultures without
having to take a long trip. Learning a
foreign language is one of those ways because it opens the doors to a better understanding
of different cultures, backgrounds and traditions.
Students watched a video related to Valentine’s Day
celebration around the world, and then made some Valentine’s cards to their
classmates.
Kids enjoyed writing about their families. They used an online tool to create their own
illustrated books and they got advantage of this tool to make writing fun for
them.
It is sometimes difficult to get students to use language in
class, especially in a meaningful way.
However; there is a strategy that encourages the use of
written and oral language to communicate in an authentic way and it is the chat
platforms. This year, students had the
opportunity to use Google Hangouts as a practice scenario of improving English language
skills by interacting with native English speakers in a genuine conversation.
Our students had the possibility to interact with students
from New Jersey in USA, thanks to Joseph
J Filoramo; Spanish teacher of Roxbury High School in that city.
It is an excellent activity if we consider how it helps to
develop students’ comprehension, speaking, written and vocabulary skills whilst
interacting with English speakers.
